side mirror, night

so it's been almost a month since my birthday. a '27 project' update could be in order:

2. i've been sewing like a maniac. i think i'll have one done next week.
6. i turned a handy box into my new 'fabric briefcase'. it's a start.
10. i posted holly's purse on craftster. and people said they liked it. :)
11. i made a yacht t-shirt. it's an inside joke, but i'll post a photo.
16. my glass bead making class in in two weeks!
18. i've started catch 22.
25. i think i'm going to start making myself sketch something each day for illustration friday... and then choose one to submit. otherwise, i think i'll just keep putting it off.
27. i've taken 111 photos so far.

nope, still winter

i think some of our spring flowers got confused by the mild weather we've been having the past few weeks.

sew it's friday

the past couple days at work have been a little long. this weekend will be much appreciated, even if i did bring some work home with me. i'd rather work on it here than at the office. and i plan to spend much, much more time crafting than working. so many ideas!

train of thought

i don't know why i'm so fascinated with trains. freight trains, at least. not so much commuter trains. i mean, commuter trains will get you where you wanna go, but if i'm going to get stopped by a train i'd prefer it be a long line of box cars covered with graffiti. i think they feel small townsy and simple. and at the same time they've got a certain mystic. you don't really know where they're going, or where they came from, or what they're hauling. but they just keep chuggin' along.

study in metal & mirror

i should post my quandaries more often. i mentioned the rockin' big balloon i got for my birthday... and found out it was from mel & dan. excellent. i had a sneaking suspicion is was from them. the little rascals.

i have to go to the fabric store this week. hopefully they'll still have the fabric i need to finish this quilt i'm working on... otherwise i have to order it online & pay shipping & wait a week to get it & blah blah blah. while i'm there i'm going to check out their corduroy. i think i may make a few more bags & offer 'em up to the masses. i think i have a good size piece of red corduroy left over from a Christmas quilt... do you suppose the red corduroy would dictate that it be a Christmas bag? i'm thinking maybe a cute white-on-white or pink-on-white print would keep it everyday-sy. and i think i want to try a vertical stripe...

sparkling new year's fun

we celebrated new year's eve with sparklers again. fire is good. but we all backed off when my brother lit a big handful of them in a final blaze of glory. there's nothing like a guy in a pirate hat holding fire on a stick.

the drive home

today's quest for more veggies led me to a can of v8 juice. it had a lot more celery taste than i was expecting.

so this gigantic balloon showed up at my front door for my birthday. and if a gigantic balloon wasn't good enough, when you hit the balloon it raps happy birthday. unfortunately there was no note with the balloon to say who it was from. so for now it's just the big surprise birthday balloon. it rocks.

knifty knitting

if you haven't seen the knitting goodness that can come off of the knifty knitter looms... i'm here to tell you that they rock. i don't knit. i can crochet a bit, but i have no desire to learn knitting. however, these looms have me hooked. a ball or two of yarn, a few hours in front of the tv, and you have a hat. it's ridiculously easy, and i love how they look. i even made one for myself... and i don't wear hats.

the white furry one is my cousin alyssa's, although that's my niece alicia trying it on. the two on the right are laure's and holly's. and you may remember the unhappy emily grace from the Christmas photos a couple days ago. i wonder if she still doesn't like that hat...

birthday bag

my sister's birthday is 5 days before mine. i made her a cute brown corduroy purse lined with a fun turqouise & pink fabric. i was pretty happy with how it came out, and she said one of the gals in her office wanted one, too. while i think it could be fun to sell some of my craftiness, i don't know about there being two 'becca bags in the same office. i mean, how much cute can one little office hold? oh yeah, and that would mean actually offering up some of my handiwork for non-family & friend critique. family & friends are very forgiving of the little inconsistencies that make an item handmade. i have this probably irrational and definitely self-imposed feeling that my goodies need to be ultra-professional before i offer them to the general public. maybe i need to get over that.
